Falls Church, VA – Ric and Jean Edelman, founders of Edelman Financial Services, Fairfax, have donated $1 million to Inova Health System to help strengthen nursing education and career development through the Inova Institute for Nursing Excellence. The funds will be aimed at adding more programs and services for the Edelman Nursing Career Development Center, which the couple founded in partnership with Inova in 2001.

“We have always supported a number of great causes in the community, so we’re happy and excited to help Inova support its core caregivers – nurses,” said Jean Edelman. “Nursing has always been dear to us. Nurses have been important to me in my life and it’s an honor to support their education and advancement.”

Since 2001, the Edelman Nursing Career Development Center has served as a resource to Inova nurses who are looking for career advancement through continuing education, career consultation, and new clinical experiences. In addition, the Edelman Center distributes nursing scholarships and financial awards to qualified Inova employees who are seeking nursing degrees, students enrolled in nursing programs who agree to work at Inova after they graduate, and Inova nurses working on advanced degrees. Each year, more than 900 Inova nurses benefit from services at the Edelman Center.

“We’re extremely grateful for this generous gift from the Edelman’s, who have long supported our mission of recruiting and retaining the best and brightest nurses,” said Karen Drenkard, RN, PhD, chief nurse executive, Inova Health System. “Through their support we’ll have the continued ability to build and maintain a health care community with some of the country’s most highly skilled nurses.”
