FAIRFAX, Va., March 4 — Ric Edelman has a problem.

During the past 12 months, 10,000 people from coast to coast have called his office asking to become clients, and hundreds more call every week. In the past year, those callers have sent him more than $100 million.

Callers have heard Edelman’s radio show, which is syndicated by the ABC Radio Networks and heard by a million people each week, seen him on one of his many television appearances, including his own 90-minute PBS special, or read one of his best-selling books, which have collectively sold hundreds of thousands of copies.

Edelman’s popularity has enabled him to build one of the largest advisory firms in the nation, with 160 employees and 8,500 clients. After the mutual fund scandal erupted in 2003, Edelman and his colleagues developed and launched the Edelman Managed Asset Program. The program offers a variety of features not found in other asset management programs, and exclusively invests in the highly regarded funds of Dimensional Fund Advisors as well as exchange-traded funds. In just three years, EMAP has attracted more than $3 billion in assets, making it one of the fastest-growing money management programs in the industry.

So what’s the problem? Edelman says he can’t keep up with the demand for his services. That’s why, beginning in March, Edelman will refer callers to local advisors who are willing to add EMAP to their practices. Dubbed the Edelman Financial Network, membership will be limited, with no cost or restrictions on other financial planning services that participating advisors might provide to the client referral they receive from Edelman.

“I’m seeking talented, experienced advisors who have a demonstrated record of taking good care of their clients and who can appreciate the benefits offered by the Edelman Managed Asset Program,” Edelman said. “If the advisor wishes to provide the client with additional services, such as financial planning, insurance, or tax preparation, that’s fine.”

In addition to offering advisors the opportunity to obtain new clients, Edelman will provide marketing support and practice management training — all at no cost. “We’re not consultants,” Edelman said. “We’re real financial advisors who happen to have built a highly successful organization over the past 22 years. We can show others how we did it, and help them replicate our success.”

Advisors interested in learning more about EMAP and the Edelman Financial Network should contact Edelman at 866-611-EMAP or emap@emapadvisor.com.
