"If you want Americans to save and invest more, make it easier for them to do so."
That's the message Ric Edelman brought to the 2002 National Summit on Retirement Savings. Appointed by the President and the Speaker of the House to serve as a Delegate to the Summit, Ric joined 399 others in examining ways to educate the public about retirement planning, focusing on boosting economic prosperity across all generations. Whatever decisions are made, Ric Edelman wants one fundamental principle to be observed: Make It Simple!
The summit, the second of three as required by the SAVERS Act, was held Feb. 27 to March 1 in Washington, D.C. Ric was also a delegate to the first Summit, held in 1998.
"President Bush's proposal to strengthen America's private pension system is heartening," Edelman said. "It was great having the chance to work with Congress and my fellow delegates in finding ways to give workers more choice and control of their own retirement savings and to restore their confidence in the fact that their ?golden years' will truly be that."
Ric is one of the nation's best-known and most successful financial advisors. He is the bestselling author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Ordinary People, Extraordinary Wealth, as well as Financial Security in Troubled Times, The Truth About Money and The New Rules of Money. His newest, Discover the Wealth Within You, released in April 2002.
Ric hosts weekly television and radio shows (for which he won the Washington, D.C., A.I.R. Award for Best Talk Show Host), writes a syndicated news column, publishes a monthly newsletter and created one of the most popular personal financial web sites at www.ricedelman.com. He also has produced a series of video tapes and audio cassettes on a variety of personal finance topics and writes an advice column for AARP's Modern Maturity magazine and other publications. For nine years, Ric taught personal finance at Georgetown University, and he remains a state- and AICPA-approved instructor for continuing professional education. He is also a member of the NASD Board of Arbitrators.
In addition to his achievements as an active educator in the field of personal finance, Ric is one of the nation's most successful financial planners. Inc. magazine ranked his firm, Edelman Financial Services Inc., as the fastest-growing privately-held financial planning firm in the country three times, and according to Bloomberg, EFS is now the fifth-largest independent financial planning and investment management firm in the nation, handling $1.7 billion in client assets.
